[ARCHIVED] Residents invited to join Commissions that advise Council

Rosemount residents can help set the direction of their community by applying to serve on City Commissions. The Council is looking to fill five openings. All terms begin April 1, 2020. Interviews will be held in March. 


Commission openings for 2020 include:

•    three 3-year terms on the Parks and Recreation Commission

•    one 3-year term on the Planning Commission

•    one 3-year term on the Utility Commission 


Residents interested in serving on a Commission may pick up an application at City Hall. Application forms are also available on the City’s website.  Applications are due by February 14.  


Commissioners receive a $35 stipend for each regular meeting they attend.  Usual meeting dates each month are:


Parks and Recreation Commission        4th Monday        7 p.m.

Planning Commission                2nd and 4th Tuesday    6:30 p.m.

Utility Commission                3rd Monday        5:30 p.m.

The Parks and Recreation Commission recommends policies and actions to create and operate Rosemount’s park system and recreational programs.  Duties of its nine members include: (a) advising the City Council in the acquisition, operation, and maintenance of parks, playgrounds, and other public lands and making recommendations regarding the City recreation system; (b) investigate needs of the park system.


The Planning Commission is composed of seven members.  It is required by state law to (a) prepare or amend a Comprehensive Plan for the City; (b) prepare or amend the zoning and subdivision regulation ordinances; (c) review and act on all development proposals in the city according to the authority and procedures set forth in the zoning and subdivision regulations. The Commission must also review the ten-year capital improvement program for compliance with the adopted plans and submit its recommendations to the City Council.


The Utility Commission supervises staff activity to operate Rosemount’s publicly owned water, sanitary sewer, and storm water utilities.  Duties of its three members include: (a) reviewing utility budgets and expenditures; (b) reviewing user fees and charges annually, or more often if necessary.
