Rental License Program

Printable Handout

The purpose of this program is to assure that rental housing in the city is operated and maintained in a decent, safe and sanitary manor and has not become a nuisance to the neighborhood or an influence that fosters blight and deterioration or creates a disincentive to reinvestment in the community.

This program applies to all dwellings and dwelling units that are leased in whole or in part for residential purposes.
  1. A Rental License is a biannual license – 2 year cycle. [Download the rental license application.]
  2. Once we receive a completed application along with the $35.00 per unit fee, we can set up the inspection of the rental unit.
  3. The inspection takes from 15 – 30 minutes.
The inspector is looking for:
  • General Safety items: operable smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, code compliant handrails at stairs, unsafe electrical, plumbing or structural issues.
  • General Heath issues: mold, water damage/leakage, unsanitary conditions.
  • Inspections are available between the hours of 8:30 am. and 3:30 pm. weekdays.
  • Call (651) 322-2024 for further information or to schedule the inspection.
