MS4 Pond Maintenance
The Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) General Permit requires permitted agencies to inspect all ponds and outfalls (the point where storm water enters into a receiving water body) once every five years, or about 20% per year. The goal of the inspection is to determine whether a component is in good working condition and able to perform its intended function.
31 outfalls and 13 ponds were inspected in 2015; these are the results:
- About half of the outfalls have minor sediment buildup within the structure
- Most outfalls appear to be in good structural condition
- Two ponds have some sediment buildup and require routine maintenance
- No ponds had erosion issues
This informational sheet summarizes the work plan to address these issues.
